The proposalsIn February 2008 Norfolk County Council published two documents headed ‘Norfolk Minerals and Waste Development Framework’. One subtitled ‘Mineral Site Allocations: Issues and Options’ lists potential sites for sand and gravel quarries; the other, ‘Waste Site Allocations: Issues and Options’, lists possible waste landfill sites throughout Norfolk. These documents show that the Forestry Commission and local landowners would like to develop around and including Bintree Woods for gravel extraction, waste landfill, concrete batching plant, asphalt plant, aggregate processing plant and secondary aggregate recycling plant. ![]() In the NCC documents the sites are listed as: MIN 97/WAS 59 is one site – Bintree Woods. After the woods have been destroyed and the aggregate removed the quarry would be filled with waste. The quarry would produce an estimated 5.3 million tonnes of aggregate and the plants are likely to process a similar tonnage of minerals. Following the mineral extraction the site would be used for waste landfill. The minerals and waste would be transported by road via the B1145 and/or the A1067. |
