Woods still face the chop!
21 September 2009

In September 2009 Norfolk County Council published its preferred options for mineral extraction and waste landfill and the news for Bintree Woods seemed all good. The Forestry Commission had withdrawn its waste landfill application and its mineral extraction proposal was listed in red on the NCC website as 'not acceptable'.

BUT it became clear that the Forestry Commission had submitted a revised mineral extraction proposal just before the decisions were announced and too late for NCC to examine properly. As a result, although listed as not acceptable in a scheme covering the period up to 2024, the Bintree Woods site will be re-consulted in 2010.

SO, against the public verdict of Norfolk County Council that Bintree Woods should not be destroyed, the Forestry Commission is playing with the planning process in a cynical attempt to get its way.

The campaign

Residents working to oppose the destruction of the countryside for mineral extraction and waste landfill have formed the Combined Parishes Group. This meets regularly to exchange information and develop ideas for the campaign. It includes residents of County School, Bintree, Billingford, North Elmham and Broom Green, with representatives of the three parish councils (Bintree, Billingford, North Elmham).
